Optimizing Costs in 'Zero Liquid Discharge' Textile Unit - A Case Study by FICCI

A detailed water and wastewater audit was conducted in one of the textile unit located near Baruch, Gujarat which is practicing Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) to meet state regulations. Although the studied textile unit has achieved ZLD and are able to reuse its treated effluent, however during the study it was observed that there were various basic issues and problems with existing water and wastewater management system which are being overlooked and can be solved with logical practicing and reasoning. Various opportunities were identifi ed to reduce the cost of treatment of RO plant in addition to freshwater savings.
